11164103099?profile=originalThe State Theater provided motion pictures all ages enjoyed..seven days a week. On certain Saturday's, kids would be admitted for six pepsi-cola tops to see chapter-series flicks, like Flash Gordon or some Western. This was called Matinee Saturday's, and you held on to your ticket to see if it matched the Grand-Prizes number(bicycle-wagons..)

As we matured, that was a place to take a date or just meet friends, and have fun. Someone seated at the rear of the theater seemed to always let a empty glass soda bottle roll several rows toward the front stage. A lot of giggling and HA!HA's! followed until someone stopped the roll or the seat leg.

This is what I remember......What are your memories of the State Theater.....anyone with pictures to include, please do.

I have searched, with no success, to find photos of the State Theater.

SAVED AND SINGLE!!!

SAVED & SINGLE

by Gloria Freeman on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 6:29pm
What makes you think that just because I am an attractive woman of Godly intelligence that I'm incomplete?

Who told you that without a man something's missing from my life? And if so, what would that be? LOVE?
I love myself and more importantly I love the Lord. He told me that when I delight in Him, He will give me the desires of my heart. SECURITY? I have everything I need according to His riches in glory. INTIMACY?
Now, how's a man going to get to know me when he doesn't even know who he is in the Lord. See my Father told me I'm above a ruby's worth, and a gem does not seek, it is sought. I'm single and that's all-
right with me. See, It's not that I oppose relationships, It's that I detest co-dependency. As a woman I know it is not my role to chase after any man. Esther 2:14 says that I am to wait on my king and when he's delighted in me, he will call me by my name. My Lord does not intend for me to be needy or desperate. I am to be cherished, relished, valued, and honored. It's not my job to convince him or convict him of that,
my mate will already know it and will consistently show it. And he will stay on his knees daily not just to adore me, but to praise the Lord for the virtuous woman he has found. So, when you see me by myself
I'm not alone,I know what I have coming to me. I'M SINGLE AND SAVED, AND RIGHT NOW... THAT'S ALL I
NEED!!!!!

The Genesis Idea, God's plan for man.

This blog is very timely as we observe the state of the world today. What is taking place is the result of mans action and God's divine judgement. It is as it was in the days of Noah. Sin is out of control and that great Nation or civilization has fallen. As one world passes away another is on the rise. The intent of this blog is to foster harmony through dialog. My eternal prayer is that we share and learn from eachother in a spirit of brotherhood. We are called to build God's Kingdom here on earth. It has been a long time coming but the time is at hand for the Genesis resurrection.

My suggestion is that we all read Genesis Chpt. 1,2,3 again and consider what we were taught, before we comment. We should search for common ground rather than focusing on our differences. So my dear brothers and sisters let the dialog begin and pray that the Holy spirit will guide us. Shalom, shalom!

Deborah Young asked: "Galen do you or anybody remember why the school colors were changed? Was it maybe too hard to find/get the Crimson and Grey colors?"  That's a good question to start a discussion on.

To my knowledge the school colors were never officially changed, it was just the displayed colors on uniforms and award jackets that varied.

We still sing in our Booker T. Washington Alma Mater, "Gray and Crimson we adore ...".
I recall seeing Red and Gray BTW letter jackets in the neighborhood all of my pre-BTW days until about 1960. After that, and certainly after my September 1961 8th grade enrollment at BTW, I never recall seeing gray in an award jacket again. It was either red and white, or solid red as my '66 varsity track jacket was.

It seems that most schools who state their colors as "crimson", like the colleges Harvard and Alabama, actually use a slightly-darker than medium red color like ours on their team uniforms and in published school materials. I've never seen on any teams colors the same "crimson" that comes up in my web graphics work, which looks like (as the Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines it) a "deep purplish-red".

Help us out .... What do YOU think -- or know -- about the history of our school colors??

Same Old Song - Or Is It?!!

I thought that it would be fun to create a story using song titles and lyrics. Anyone can join in and when the responses slow down, I'll add the comments together and we'll have a story! Just a little something to have some fun with. Let's see how many titles we can utilize in this story. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Jet Magazine....What Was Going On....

This truly is a treasure for someone interested in Black History..
THIS....

IS WAAAYYY Cool !

You can ACTUALLY see every edition of JET AND read them !!!!

This is Black American History at its best!!!

This was forwarded to me and I knew I had to share. Check it out when
you have time. This e-mail contains copies of Jet Magazine going all the
way back to 1950s copies.

Not only do you get the covers of all the issues of Jet Magazine, but
you can actually read the issues. Good tool for your children and
grandchildren.

I browsed through some of them and the emotional changes I went through
is; I don't know how to describe it. This is definitely a keeper!

http://books.google.com/books?id=Db4DAAAAMBAJ&hl=En&source=gbs_all_issues_r&cad=2_2&atm_aiy=1950#all_issues_anchor

The words above were written by the person who sent the email with the Jet Magazine link to me. My thoughts are the same as hers so I'll only add this:

When we received our weekly Jet Magazine it was passed around until it was pretty much falling apart. The magazine was at that time the only way we found out what was going on in the black comunity. In it we could find out what people of color (Negroes back then) would be on TV/radio that week among other things

After browsing through the first Jet I found myself thinking, "Oh my God, how far we have come". And then reminding myself that the same discrimination that Josephine Baker endured, and that black men and women are imprisoned for on trumped up charges (drugs found in back seat of police car), continues to exist in 2010 in America and elsewhere in the world.

My consolation is in knowing that God already knew that things were going to happen.

Tell me what you think, how you feel, Bulldogs.....

Johnny Mack Brown

URGENT HELP NEEDED, BTW FAMILY!!!

- by Fred Walker -

11164101300?profile=originalHello Bulldogs ... a fellow Bulldog is in need . Let me start out by saying it's Johnny Mack Brown. If you knew Johnny Mack from high school, you know he was a bad fellow. Fast forward and you might call it a miracle . I call it the grace of God, to witness such a turn around in one's life is amazing. 11164101666?profile=originalA few years back Johnny Mack Brown, went into a burning apartment and saved the life of his childhood friend and my 1960 classmate James Johnson. This week the apartment where Johnny reside caught fire, a Dallas fire fighter lost his life, Johnny lost most of his belongings. We know that cash is king , but if you can help in any way it will be greatly appreciated. The Gifts of love don't have to be new, Johnny needs Shoes size 9-1/2 , Shirts Extra Large, Pants 40/30 (40 inches in the waist, 30 inches in length), Suits Forty-Two Regular. Furniture and all household items are needed. Do what you can for this man of God and our dear beloved classmate. A Trust Fund in his name will be set up soon. Feel free contacting me at ---captwalk@yahoo.com

Bulldog family and friends, please make this as important as new reunion attire, and anything else God would smile at us for putting aside or on hold briefly to help rebuild a precious life from tragedy today with those funds instead, and doing it for one who is already a part of our collective family even though you may be meeting Johnny for the first time. Thank you for your love. This could be one of our stories some day.
-= God Bless Us All =-
