Remembering Mom

I have been think about some of the things my mom did to make me happy when I was little. When she woke me  for school this is what she said.

" I was up so tiptoe early that the flowers were all pearly as they waited in there places for the son to dry there faces."  This gives me a wonderful feeling when I think about my mom . She passed away  June 25, 2010.

What are some of the things your mom is doing are did in the pass to make you smile?

  • I'm so glad you asked:  Good subject Jean/Johnny:  I remember how my mother made all of our church and school clothes.  She was very detailed in how she hemmed and sewed our clothing, she was so good that you couldn't tell that our clothes were hand made.  And a cook she was:  She could cook anything...and she never measured anything...and now today on all of these cooking shows, they act like they invented..."the no need to measure" your ingredients."  My mother called it "dumping" her ingredients  She dumped, with a big kitchen spoon, that Lard/grease - the one in a green and white box - or when she poured salt from Mrs. Morton's salt box...or when she sprinkled in from her hand, black pepper, or she would dump onions and celery in the skillet. Now that was what we called dumping.  My mother could iron our clothes like they came from the cleaners...and we boil our starch on the stove.  And you talking about our jeans being hard and straight...you could stand the pants up in a corner and they wouldn't fall over.  And the dishes she washed...were "squeaky" clean...and no plates were ever left in the kitchen sink over night.  And when she cooked for the family or friends, everybody had enough food left over that everybody took a plate home and they had enough food for their dinner the next day.  And it was about cooking:  Collard greens, sweet potatoes, corn bread, black eyed peas and red beans, corn on the cob, friend okra, fried chicken or a pot roast.  My sisters Nita and Evelyn still cook like my mother did today. Good habits are hard to break...ha, ha, ha.  And I had a reason why I didn't mention me...because I was the history taker...ha, ha, ha....all I could and can do is R-E-M-E-M-B-E-R just how good it all was!  Praise the Lord my husband can cook..now that's good eat'n.  Smile
  • Clyde you are still making beautiful memories with your Mother that is such a blessing. I would count it a blessing to play dominos at 90 years old and she wins that's great.  Sorry about your Dad. Johnny and I have been married 40 years and both of our parents are gone .We have some good  memories to share.

    Be Blessed

  • Well Jean, Johnny may recall Dad past in 1968, while Ma Dear still lives and recently celebrated her  90th birth day, Super Bowl Sunday...My mom  plays great dominoes, whenever I domino, she will only have in her hand, double blank or double ace, in other words, I never get a count out of her hand, never.  This tickles me to death:-)
