  • Yep, those were the GOOD OLD FABULOUS days for our growing up young selves! And sometimes although the streetcorner harmony sounded great to me, one of the group would suggest a singer change something and there was instant agreement .. no discussion .. and all would pick it up again seamlessly as if they just took a 5-second "break" and were counting tempo all the time...'cause all of them were after that same heavenly harmony!!

That Young sisters' Marshall song was something to hear, I'm sure!! ;)

  • Galen, I too remember those guys singing outside of our bedroom windows across the street where Janice Mason Titus lived.  Me and my sisters, would sit on the side of the bed and look out of the window...with our chins pressed against the window ledge... as they sang underneath the "big light"...that's what we called it back then. The light shined so brightly that you could see the group from a distance doing their thang.  And oh yeah!...they could sing too...and without music...as you so know.  But those were the days my friend...those were the days!

My sister's and I had a song that we used to sing when our parents sent us to the country - Marshall, Tx for the summer to stay with our grandmother.  and you know all songs back then were "made" up...as you went along.

Well our song was..."I want to go hooome...hooome...hooome. I want to see Baba..Baba, Baba...Baba...(that was Pop Sneeds sister Janice Sneed)...and we would sing and use the names of  all of our friends in the Projects...hahaha....Now that was the GOOD OLD DAYS!

  • Takes me back .... waaay back ... to the mid and late 50's when brothers in the hood would sing me to sleep singing doowop harmonies outside my window at Lafayette and Mason (in the Roseland Homes project) between my 8 pm bedtime and whatever time they had to break up and go indoors. That was a Fabulous, priceless time!

  • This was my favorite by the Five Notes...aka: Five Stars, aka: Five Masks
