Thanks, Cassie! She was a LADY for sure!! I learned every day of every year by her words and deeds what a REAL lady is. Spoiled me for anything less!
Yes that was her actual hair and she kept it well coiffured in different styles all of her life. It's a guess but I think she was about age 14 in this picture. When she moved to Heaven at age 44 she looked exactly the same.
She's a 1942 Booker T. graduate who attended all classes in her wheel chair. As adults her schoolmates told us growing up that boys would sometimes argue (in fun I'm sure) which of them would get to carry her upstairs in her chair for the upstairs classes. I have a picture of her in class that I'll have to find and upload.
Thanks, Cassie. She's actually my grandmother ... and yes, she was a "stepper" back in the day. She was about 39 then. My mother's picture is here on our web... here she is,
and her best friend and dancing contest partner Aline Mays, She was mother of your classmate Thomas Mays, his brother Ronald (Ronnie) Mays BTW Class of 1962, and their oldest brother Quinton Mays.
