This Photo was taken, as you can see, at the Aristocrat. I think it was the morning following the 1954 graduation ceremonies.

  • Hey Cecil Ray, how well, do I remember The Aristocrat & the pink champale drink! that was "the drink" for us, over there. :)

    "Those were some good days."  The senior class of 1954?  That's the same year, I started Booker T. in the 8th grade, 14 years old ....  "Wow" !!

  • Hello Cecil
    I was just looking at the photo of th Aristocrat, Oh what fun I have going there. Young folks today would not thinks of that as fun. I remember to guys in your class I wonder where there are. Leon Mayfield and Weldon Washington they were good friends with my coz Cuney Clemons.
    Thanks have a nice day.
  • Hi Cecil & Nancy, The Aristocrat is really a part of our "Black Hisory." We lost the State Theater and North Dallas Shoe Shop, Hill & Smith Drug Store, Home of Visiting Friends,Johnson Eat Shop,
    and many more black own business on Thomas,Hall,Allen, State, Leonard,Pearl and Flora.
  • Those prices must have held for about 10 years, because I paid a quarter for those "good juicy greasy" ones at Good Luck Chuck mentioned after football games and track meets in 1963. The week before I started work at Moo Cow on Munger & Washington in 63's Summer burger prices went up to 40 cents, and Moo Cow's owner Ben Lisotta said "I'll have to raise my price to $.40 too or I'll lose money".

    Then there were those great-tasting link baskets....do we even want to talk about them!!?
    * Hot Chocolate....10¢
    * Ice cream cones ... 5¢ and 10¢
    ......man!

  • Cecil you just hit a mother lode,gold..gold..gold!Congatulations and Thanks for sharing. My memory is walking thru the parking lot, on to Good Luck's for one of those juicy Hamburgers or a Foot Long w/chili and onions. A coach didn't want to see you at the "Crat" when I came along.
    Man this is good stuff........I've been searching for any photo of the State Theater before it closed on Thomas & Hall St.
  • The hamburgers were a QUARTER....this is good stuff

    I never got the opportunity to enjoy the Aristocrat as some of my friends did... I remember being there and someone tipped my daddy that I had been there well u know what happened. After that I remember us cutting through the parking lot on our way to Good Luck...
    I missed out on good fun... Wink as a teenager were u really able to order a Champale?

    I did go to the Pink Palace. It had curb service too.
  • Cecil you just struck gold, Thats a nugget. The Old Aristocrat, the place to be .As teenager I would park(not my car) and order my big shot drink. Give me a Champale with extra cherries,later to label it a lady drink.
  • Cecil this is a great photo. I was thinking about the fun at the Aristocrat and Casa Lobi yesterday.What good fun I had at both.
