From the Marion Butts photos colllection online of the Dallas Public Library, which says these ladies were twirling in this picture at Halftime at Cobb Stadium (now the Infomart) on September 21, 1961. Those beaming smiles seem to say we won don't they?! Maybe Mildred (in front) or Willie Mae can tell us here on BTWDALLAS! Identified by 'the faithful' in our conversing here are, from left to right: Mildred Stewart, Ruby Hines, Annie Frank Williams, Carolyn Williams, and Marva Lois Franklin, who lived next door to me growing up. Wow!..what a memory!!

  • J. Frank, I've heard those pictures and the many others that graced our hall walls and chronicled our history were almost destroyed in a dumpster during construction of the "new" part of BTW for arts magnet enhancements. Word has it that Mrs. Reeves (Homemaking) was personally responsible for saving some as well as some trophies about to suffer the same fate, and that they may possibly  reside in the care of one of our star Bulldog athletes. Maybe someone with more detailed knowledge can verify and/or elaborate on that.

  • Good Times!

  • What happened to the pictures that were in the hallway of the 1967 Baseball and Basketball teams that won the city that year.

  • I never get tired of seeing this picture because it shows me just how much beautiful talent we had right under our noses.  We appreciated them...even though we didn't know the hard practices it took to get it right...but we have learned to truly appreciate them today.  I learned from the best and these are just a few of the Best that I learned from. My sisters Gloria Young Conway and Mary Young Johnson were also a few of the best that lived with me...so I had an advantage.  Advantage "not" only to become a majorette, but the advantage to " know" what it took to be the best when you become a majorette.  I thank God for having the opportunity to see these majorettes perform and for me,  to become one of their future majorettes of America to uphold and to follow in their "firmly imprinted" footsteps.

  • If you see people without a smile today, give them one of yours.

Choose to rise.....Don't settle....and go for your dreams!!!!

And most of all let God lead you in everything you do.

  • That is an awesome Photo, and really brings backs memory! Do we have any photos of the National Track Team Of 1961??? The writer Rudy Luckie
