  • In the neighborhood (West Dallas Projects) we called him 'Snot', later changed to 'All-Star'!! He traveled between West Dallas and South Dallas home wise. His cousins lived next door to Spud Webb, who lived next door to me.

I met his daughter before I retired. She loved the nicknames!!! I think he still lives in Wichita, works for the school.

  • I played against Snockgrass ,that's Stallworth's nick name , he was some type of player, for Madison High school.Melvin was an underclassman team mate of mine at Booker T. He did what most underclassman did ,waited his time. Once his time came Melvin was a very good player also .

  • Small World!!!

Melvin of course was a classmate at BTW and before that at SPA (St. Peter's Academy). But David Stallworth was a neighbor who saved also my life! (Swimming hole caper, could have been tragic).

  • nice Job on the pics.
  • Good Picture of Melvin.
  • Ditto Fred, indeed a great picture and most important is you can clearly see the faces of everyone.

This is the same team Fred that while traveling in North Texas came to Dallas and practiced in our Booker T. Washingtons' gym. Dave did not workout that day, but #30(Kelly Pete)put on a show running drills at a level I'll never....ever forget. The coach's son was Jamie Thompson, I can't remember his number, but a pure shooter was impressive during practice that day on his long range shots. Missed very few times. Coach Wiley encouraged the basketball team and other athletes to be present to watch this Wichita State -"Wheatshockers" Basketball Team workout in our gym, and many were fortunate to sit in the bleachers and witness as I did.

Galen, I don't know where you came up with this photo, but you hit the MOTHERLODE here Brother.

  • Great picture Galen, Melvin played behind me at Booker T.he also played in the NCAA Final Four against UCLA .Melvin was a very good player . Number#42 is Dave Stallworth ,I played against Stallworth while he was attending Dallas Madison High School. Dave went on to play for the NBA New York Knicks.Stallworth was one of the better players to play in the DISD .I really hate saying this but I held my own against Dave , it was J. C. Johnson , Wilbert William and Hose Epps that gave us our biggest problem . If number #12 is who I think he is(Nate Bowman) ,out of Fort Worth Dunbar I played against him also. Nate played for the NBA New York Knicks as well.Nate is the tallest player , I ever played against . While they were hitting jump shots . I was hitting that time clock .I hope that answer your question whether I was better or not .
