  • Hello all u BULLDOGS, I truly enjoyed being with all my BTW family. No one is ever a stranger around the campus. I missed not seeing Juanita, Gloria n Carolyn to name a few. But we had FUN! Barbara B felt so good she stood at her table and did all DA moves and Jearldine closed us out with Chubby Checker's "TWIST" and was getting up, down n twisted DA entire song. U go GIRL!
Thanks to all that pulled it off. Great job. Our Christmas gathering will have to be SOON, because who ever DA PIANO MAN is, ( I think someone said "Buddy or Wink") is losing his VOICE. IF HE IS TO PERFORM FOR CHRISTMAS, we had better HURRY N get his piano tuned.
    Love all u guys

  • Hi Bobie.  You and Charles look so cute and sweet.  Look at Charles with his hands in his pocket like he is a big boy....lol.  But look at the fancy car.  What model is it Bonita...or do you remember? lol  It looks like an Impala.  And you two are standing across the street where we had to  walk under the bridge to get over to the Projects...across the street from Papa Dads...right???  And I love your white gloves...your Easter outfits are not complete unless you had gloves and a handbag---you were and are sooooo cute.  Thanks for sharing. this picture of you and Charles.

  • Thanks Chuck! I had forgotten about the pool hall being there. I'm not sure about the car. There really was a lot going on on Thomas & Hall. I think we were fortunate to live in the area we lived in. I never got slapped in the face with racism until I left the neighborhood.....

Jesse Paul lived behind me on Winn Place.
  • VERY NICE PICTURE BONITA.....LIKE ALL WHO MADE MANY A TRIP UNDER THE BRIDGE TO PAPA DAD'S OR THE STATE THEATER OR THE POOL HALL! WE HEARD THE THUMP SOUND OF ALL THE CARS PASSING ABOVE. SPEAKING OF CARS..IS THAT A 56-57 OLDS CHARLES & BOBIE ARE STANDING IN FRONT OF?
THIS PHOTO HELPED ME REMEMBER TAKING A SHORT CUT WALKING UNDER THE PILLARS OF THE BRIDGE TO HOLLAR AT JESSE PAUL,WHO LIVED NEARBY.THANKS FOR SHARING BONITA
  • That's funny , Fred. I can smell a hot link sandwich. I think we had the best location in "the bricks". Walk under the bridge to catch the bus going downtown. Or not even a 1 minute walk to catch the bus to North Park. I'm pretty sure that Elm thicket was gone by then.

  • I can smell that bar-b Que now ,think I WALK UNDER THAT BRIDGE AND GET ME AN ORDER OF BRAKES.
  • Fred, that is Thomas and Hall. That's the State Theater and I think we can see part of Papa Dad's Bar-B-Que. I'm not sure about the car.
  • Now thats a Petticoat for sure but the car have me guessing,1959 CHEV. One more guess, but I need your help.Under that bridge Is that leading to Thomas and Hall.Could that be the State Theater.
  • Yes! 2118 North Central Expressway. That's where I was in 1959. We could sit on the front porch and hear the music from the Shalimar or maybe the Green Cape or Green Parrot. I'm not sure which.
  • I remember that B.F. Darrell cutie scholar. Ms. Johnnie Dolores dressed her girl well didn't she? And that looks like a 1959 Chevrolet, one of my favorite styled cars in American car history. I looked real hard under the Central Expressway arches to see the State Theater on the Thomas & Hall corner and the Shalimar Grill on Hall Street, but I couldn't make out either. What a memory.
