  • I will miss Nell's very friendly Christlike spirit, her easy smile, and her "Big Sister" Love advising of Brother Robert Lane. The world would be a much better place with many many more souls like Nell. We will see you again in that Great Resurrection Reunion, dear Nell.

------------- Life Reflection (shared by Robert Lane) -------------

Willie Neal (Nell) (Daniels) Martin was born on June 10, 1936, to Mr. Hilton L. Daniels and Mrs. Golden (Buckley) Daniels of Milon, Texas.

As a young child, Nell, her sister, Liz, and parents moved to Center, Texas (Shelby County). The family later moved to San Augustine, Texas where she attended elementary school, graduating as an outstanding student. While in San Augustine, Nell was baptized in the Baptist Church.

The family later settled in Dallas, Texas where Nell attended and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School (Class of ’54 - Bull Dogs Forever!!). Nell received her Bachelor’s degree from Paul Quinn College in Waco, Texas. It was at Paul Quinn where she said, “A mutual friend introduced me to Henry L. Martin.” She earned a Master’s Degree from Texas Women’s University (TWU).

Willie “Nell” Daniels married Henry L. Martin of Linden, Texas in 1963. Henry preceded her in death in January 2007. Their marriage was a shared passion of mutual love for family, education and Christian teaching.

Nell began her life’s work as an educator as a classroom teacher and went on to hold other positions in DISD for 35 years. She taught second grade at Phyllis Wheatley for over twenty years. She was recognized as Dallas ISD teacher of the year twice, with several nominations. Following a mild heart attack, she had to decrease her activities, so, she taught mostly special education, and tested and tutored children with reading, writing and spelling disabilities. She taught Sunday school classes at the Potter’s House and mentored young girls in biblical teachings.

Nell was blessed with a terrific sense of humor and a sharp wit. She loved traveling  church, and teaching young minds. She will be missed by a host of family and friends.
