REMEMBERING IRMA JEAN BOYD, BTW CLASS OF 1966


Ms. Irma Jean Boyd May 22, 1948 - September 25, 2018

Irma Jean Boyd was born May 22, 1948 in Dallas, Texas to the proud parents, Harold and Jessie Sanders Boyd. She was baptized at Munger Avenue Baptist Church at an early age under the pastorage of Dr. B. E. Joshua. She was part of the Starlight Band, Youth Usher Board, Youth Choir and president of the Azalea Garden Club.

She attended the J. W. Ray Elementary School, B. F. Darrell Elementary School and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1966. She went on to graduate from the Texas Woman’s University with a Bachelors of Arts in Science Degree in August 15, 1970.

She retired from UT Southwestern Department of Family Planning in 2006 after 30 years of service. After retirement, Irma volunteered at the Dallas Urban League and the African American Museum. She also worked as an election clerk for the Democratic Party.

Irma was a member of the Dallas Council of Garden Clubs, the Texas State Federation of Garden Clubs, as well as, Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Incorporated, a business and professional women’s organization.

She is survived by siblings: Linda Boyd Williams, Mary Boyd Spencer, Harold Boyd, Jr., Carol Boyd Wright and Herbert Lee Boyd (Johnetta); special friend, Vernon Hooper; nieces and nephews: Lisa Thomas, DeVonna Boyd Baggett (Eric), Bruce McCoy, Jr. (Ladonna), Korey Boyd, Chalin Wright, Taneva Boyd Rhodes (Larry), Brittan Boyd and a host of great and great-great nieces, nephews and cousins.
