I went to j.w. ray ,B. F. Darrell and Booker T. Washington.I need help with our teachers names at each of these school. J.W.Ray I only remember my homeroom teacher ,Mrs Magasket and I hope I spelled her name correct.I can do better at Darrell . mrs kelly, mrs Sweat, mrs Shelton, mrs Gee, mrs Jackson, mrs Mingo,mr Horton,Mrs Jordan,mr Tankley, mrs Boyce ,mr Walton, let's not forget our great custodian,mr Ranson and head custodian mr Jackson.I can name all my BTW teachers but refresh my memory.
Through the years we have had our events, our class reunions , we have invited our teachers to come as our special guest. How about putting together an event recognizing them. W e come and celebrate them. I think that would be a great event and I believe bulldogs would come from near and far to show love and support to the folks who help shape our lives.
I loved the pink program. I forgot all about this program, even though it was on my birthday-March 30, 1961. I was 12 years old. I want to say that I did perform on the program with the high steppers or one of the groups, I just cannot remember. I simply love seeing the names of all of my teachers...Ms. Sweatt, Ms. Brown, Mr. Cowan, Mr. Brigham, Ms. Boyce, Ms. Glass, Ms. Gee, whom some I had forgotten until I saw the Swing into Spring program. I wonder where Marie Moore is today. I think of her sometimes. And Don Neroe...where is he? Has anyone see James Johnson-not Butch Johnson, this James was in my class at B.F. Darrell. Where is Alvin Wright? He used to play in local clubs. And Theodore "Ted" Faulkner is another guy that I think of. He was very smart at B.F. Darrell.
I am new to the BTW site and just finished reading and enjoying all of the replys on Those Who Shaped Our Lives. I can only think of four that I didn't see mentioned. Munger Ave: Mrs. Peoples, and J W Ray: Mrs. Cotton (auditorium), Mrs Bush (playground), she had two daughters;Caroleta and Louise, Mrs Hudson(music) son Samuel, daugthers; Mary and Estrellita and I think a couple of others. In 1952, we did an auditorium play 'Cinderella'. Mildred Stewart had the title role.
I just read "Peoples who help shape our lives our teacher" You guys have very good memories, I bearly remember going to JW Ray and BF Darrell I don't remember any teachers or their name. I remember only a few at BTW. Keep up the good memories.
This find gentleman and scholar was one of our better Teachers,You could call him Mr no nonsense and be right on target.Mr wells was in the science department.A salute to Mr Wells for a job well done.
Genetta, in my 1st J. W. Ray year Andrea was in 3rd grade and you had gone to 4th grade at Darrell. I came to B.F. Darrell in 4th grade which puts you upper-class sisters in the 6th and 7th then. I was so green and awed by the 'bigger school' that I doubt if I noticed anyone mostly but the same few old friends week to week as I tried to get oriented and comfortable. .."the Old Building", "the New Building" ... so confusing it was for a while just getting my schedule remembered! (LOL) I actually got "lost" [and late to class] trying to find my classrooms quite a few times at first!
When I did start learning people instead of rooms and buildings the new names that "stuck" were Bill Smith (Fletcher's bro.), Eddie Sanders, Clyde Coger, Eddie Sneed, Charles Cox, and girls (!!) Chestine Banks, Gloria Austin, Lovie Baltrip, Alice Smith, Bonita Titus, Emma Thompson, Carolyn Kemp, and Dorothy Brown. Do you ever see Gloria or Lovie?
Genetta, I never knew you attended Darrell. Was Andrea there too? As much as I saw you two at Booker T. I should have seen you at Darrell. Then again, I was distracted much with 'learning' the new school environment in 4th grade, and once I started running track in the upper grades that sport was my breakfast, lunch and dinner so to speak.
