Traveling life highways have taught me plenty . The one thing I constantly find , life is so unpredictable . Who could have told me ,that I would enjoy myself , I mean really enjoy myself , visiting an Ex high school teacher who doesn't remember me from Adam . Butch Crayton was singing today at the Williamsburg Nursing Home . Whenever Butch is singing it's a blessing itself to be there .Alone with myself , Butch ,Charles Wilson and L D Daffy we were the four visiting Bulldogs . Once getting there I remember Cassie saying that Mrs Butler was a resident there . The front desk inform me that indeed she was there . Our own Mrs Helen Butler . From that point forward it was back to the halls of dear Ole Booker T. At eighty one years old Mrs Butler is shape and professional as ever . It made her day to be thought of by four ex students . She was lite up on the outside and me on the inside . I call and let her talk to Barbara Bershear , next I call Mr Kincade who she hadn't spoken to in over sixty years. You could feel the joy in the air . She made it clear that visits from ex students are welcome . Visiting a nursing and enjoying the happiness you are bringing to others can be as rewarding to you, as it is to them . Our addresses can change before we know it , so get a chance to see how it feel from your current address . Life Journeys I wouldn't have it any other way .
The Bulldog Fellows had another great get together. I got some great pictures to show for it. Ben Myers the singing machine was there with all his great musical selections. We rocked the mike. Oliver and Dennis Coleman was there. Wilson Franklin and his Buddy drove up from East Texas . Most of the regulars were there,Chuck ,Perry ,Carl, Travis, Mcgee,Dudley , V.Board and son, Bobby Spencer Richard Manson , EX World WW Boxing Champion Curtis Cokes. Galen,Wilford,John Lewis Wesley ,Jerral , Joe Nathan ,Dee ,two Lawrence's and others. It's not the numbers more so than the love and respect we have for each other that is what make this such a heart felt gathering .We also get our lies in. Looking forward to our next one in February .
Life Journey took me to a Duncanville Hotel this past Sunday. While being nosy like some people say I am. Only after seeing several people wearing Tee Shirts with the name Lewis on the back. My curiosity ,not my nose got the best of me . I stopped this young man to satisfy my thinking that it was a family reunion. Being the genius that i'm not,I got lucky and was right on point.It was the Lewis's Family Reunion out of Athens ,Texas.What amaze me most ,and made me even prouder , after taking to this Lewis family member, out of Houston ,Texas,was the facts and history of this African American family reunion . It has been taking place for One Hundred And Sixteen consecutive years (116). If you know anyone from Athens,Texas please share any information you have. That is a beautiful journey for the Lewis family. I'm hoping to see my family reach two in a row.
I played semi pro basketball with Curtis Cokes ,and Jug (RJ) .Curtis was some kind of ball handler, he was even better at baseball . I was bless to see most of his local fights. His first wife Willie Mae Wilson was a great friend of mine ,God bless her soul . She was my Bid whist partner .If you wanted a good laugh spend just a few minutes with Willie Mae she would have you what we called then busting your sides .Curtis good friend,classmate and business partner was A J Chaney who later headed a Multi level business called Dynamite, which I was apart of it. . Life's Journey what good memories they bring .
I worked with Curtis Cokes' brother-Ernest Cokes' wife-"Naomi Cokes." I worked with Naomi for over 30 years at Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Ernest and Naomi's daughter Angie and my son Corey D went to Carter H.S. together. Naomi is a beautiful person inside and a joy to have as a friend.

BOY OH BOY, when Fred called me from the nursing home and told me he had spoken with Miss Butler, my body went into uncontrollable shakes, quivers, tears and cold sweats. I did not realize the impact that such GREAT NEWS could do..Fred you are the chosen ONE and I now make an EXECUTIVE DECISION and officially present to you the title of OUR MASCOT FOR DEAR OLE BOOKER T. You my dear friend are the HUMANATARIAN FOR BTW..IT HAS BEEN SECOND (I can hear the seconds from the crowd). You are always traveling down the road of caring and sharing for others.. THAT IS YOUR MISSION..YOU AND CHARLES are always there for all and we love you both.
My dear Carolyn, who has been in my head since I entered high school, you know you can count on me..she never knew she was in my head until we started communicating on CLASSMATES IN 2009. It was meant to be.
Gloria, you said a mouth full and it IS the gospel that this BTW REUNION is truly a blessing from GOD and our MISSION has begun.
