Here's an ongoing discussion designed to be a place where you can get helpful answers to any problems you may have sometimes using and adding things to the network. No question is too small, and there's certainly no such thing as a "silly" one.
Chances are 99% sure that I (Galen) or one of the other administrators will be able to answer your question and do some step-by-step tutoring. In a case where we can't we will find the answer as quickly as possible for you from the Network engineers who created the nuts and bolts of Ning.Com .... which should never be more than two days in my experience here the last 2 years.
So, we're at your service. Thanks for being here. Enjoy.
Cassie, we are beholding "the new" Ning online chat that they integrated into all Ning networks' "back ends" (the cover-all name for all the digital bits and bytes that create any network) a few months ago, and this "new chat" has the collective hatred of virtually all of this Ning network platform's web creators like me. Why the back-end engineers are slow to make it act right is anyone's guess. Most of us are working on finding 3rd-party (developed by another software whiz) online chat modules to install into our networks for the joy and convenience of members, and there are some promising ones we're testing.
Believe it or not the dang thing actually worked once when I first enabled it for us back around October. The only thing someone needed -- and supposedly still needs -- to be alerted to your chat message is to have their PC sound NOT turned off and the little "speaker" sound icon on the chat bar "pushed up from the bottom position" which is the "off" position. I found out by digging into creators' forums that Ning engineers have the "ding" message sound set to "off" as the default, and no matter how techno we are we are technically locked out from changing that in the code. (Duh ... what were they thinking?) Many of us think there should be a visual signal -- something flashes, blinks, blows up -- as an easy way someone will know thay have a message.
I hope within a week to have a new one installed and disable the existing one ... which I can do now, but it at least shows members that are online for whatever utility use that may be (like making a phone call to a friend to discuss a BTWDallas matter when we see them online). Parenthetically, as Bob said I'm often shown to be online but am away from the computer ... sometimes even gone from home to a meeting, church service, or en route somewhere on a one-hour-drive. I'll try out logging off each time I go away to prevent confusion about my availability - that's a note I made to self days ago.
Galen & Robert thanks, I do understand but I was really excited when Fred and I were able to chat on line with each other...I will look for the sound icon etc nx. time.
I always thought you guys put in a lot of time (you really do) because I always saw one or the other on line.. Now I know that you really don't just sit and be available for us all day and all night. How silly of me; You guys do have a life.
Regardless, you are doing a GREAT JOB! HOPE IS ALIVE AND THE DEVIL IS A LIE.
Love u guys

Hi Cassie,
I was online but not at the computer. I know Galen is almost always online, but not at the computer. As a matter of fact I can't recall ever getting through to anyone online, and checking, ever receiving a message alert. Galen was working on that a few weeks back. I'll advise him.
Robert
PS Glad you liked the song!!
GALEN OR OTHER BULLDOGS: I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO ADD MORE THAN ONE PHOTO FROM MY PICTURES ON MY COMPUTER. BUT I HAVE FAILED MANY MANY TIMES! P-L-E-A-S-E HELP!!! I.E. TO ADD THEM TO MY LIST ON MY SITE AND/OR BTW.NING
Hi Billy,
In order to add pictures to your page you must first 'import' them to the site. Once on the site add them to an 'Album'
1. Click on 'Photos', click add photos (this will take you to your computer-stored photos (usually 'Pictures').
2. Click on the photo that you want, you can load up to 100 photos if you use 'bulk'.
3. After you have all your photos click 'Upload', this will take about five miutes, depending on the quantity.
4. After upload completes pick/name an album, photos will transfer there. At this point the pix are on the site, putting them in an album keeps them organized. You do not have to put them in an album.
Galen, I came across this discussion and this is where I need to be.....I have been wondering if there was a HELP /? page some where. I didn't want to ask before I had explored more of the site. Yes, I believed you had it here I just couldn't find it.
Maybe if this was on the home page where all could see it might help me and all others that NEED YOUR HELP. I see one of the discussions has been deleted could that be a spot / space to use. What do I know about designing a web site, ABSOULTLY NOTHING, but I know you do.LOL
ITS NOT BY CHANCE....YOU WERE CHOSEN! (this is my belief) and its all falling into place.
We know that light speed is 186,000 miles per second, what is the speed of dark?

Somebody call Bob lane and tell him his miscievous twin is loose!! :) Good one, Bob.
Oh .... and since complete dark is the total absence of light .... the answer is "zero".
