Buddy, I didn't remember that about the number of bottles you could turn in. Nor, did I remember about the larger bottles were 5 cent. Your memory is beautiful! Since your memory serves you better than me, can you remember "what time" the stores opened and "closed" for business? Good question uh?
Well I worked at Sammie's or should I say I slaved at Sammie's. It was good to know where the other stores were so I could take my soda bottles and sale them,i'm sorry ,to get my deposit back .
Buddy why did you have to go to the other stores to sale them....I'm sorry....to get everybody's in the Project's deposit back....which still today I haven't seen my change. I didn't think there was a limit at any store....but what would I know...I gave you all of our bottles to return for us....so I wouldn't know....not until today when you told the world.....hahahaha. Carl, don't give him anymore store names, he'll try to find them today and take his beer bottles....thinking in today's world they give you your deposit back when you never paid for it to get the beer. Oh, but the hidden deposit charges are in the bottle....all that yeast...and you cannot give that back...Bahahaha! & Bahee...hee!
Ok, well it's obvious to me that you all must have had more money than I to stop and spend at these stores. While I remember many that are already named by you all, I only visited few of them for shopping. Rains, and the one directly across from Booker T for the cookies. It is nice however, to see that memory is serving you all well. So, I'll slip out as I slipped in. Thanks for the memories.
Evelyn you are so correct. We both came from large families who didn't have all that money or could even "go" that far outside of our restricted home area to shop. OOOPS....do you know where your children are?.....hahahaha. But thanks too for the memories guys keep it going and while you are at it pick up me some 2 for penny cookies and a slow poke, a moon pie, a tootsie roll, a woosie grape or orange soda, a wind mill cookies, a coke in the short bottle, a baby Ruth, a pecan roll, you get my drift. But pick me up something!!! And tell Ms. Johnson hello. Oh yeah...pick me up some round salami, long horn cheese and crackers at Rains....where I shopped....lol....this is a good one Carl.

Don't forget the 7/11 on Mckinney & Fairmount we made close after football games.
Chuck, I remember Mrs.Johnson's on Hall & the alley across from Darrell REAL well, since that was my favorite place to buy big-old 2-for-a-penny cookies and she made the BEST hamburgers back then... better than Good Luck to me. My mother also liked her hamburgers and would send us for some for her now and then! I recall Mrs. Johnson's looks like I just saw her this morning... tall, slim, nice dark complexion, in her 50's or 60's maybe, and she seemed very likeable. Also had some of the best pickles of the nearby stores. (In that huge jar they all had at the counters.)
I shopped at the store on Roseland Ave. & McCoy many times, mostly when I visited friends in that area like Harold Harden or whatever girl visiting Dallas for the Summer invited me over. Seems it had a lot of steps up to the front door, and there was a very friendly young man working there who would always be cleaning up with a long white store clerk's apron on. I believe he was a BTW grad and maybe a friend of my family....real cool brother who always had a smile!
The Hall & Munger store I always passed by but don't ever recall going inside for anything.
