  • In reference to Capt. Walker's question, let us remember these Professional Bulldogs: Curtis Cokes, Won the WBC welterweight title in 1966 and successfully defended the title for three years. The only fighter, black or white, who brought a world championship to Dallas, Texas. Born June 15, 1937. Ernie Banks: Nicknamed "Mr Cub" for his outstanding talent on the baseball field with the Chicago Cubs and an MVP winner. William "Bill" Blair, a team mate of Ernie Banks before Banks was drafted out of the Negro League. Blair could hold his own and was an outstanding pitcher inducted into the Negro Hall of Fame.

  • I played on the 1956 Bulldogs and were District Co-Champions. George Flemmings, Jimmy Toleston, Alvin Loyd were in the backfield, Arbrey Smith, Robert "Iron head" Morris, Thomas Pinkard, Kenny Mayes and Robert Hillman were on the team.
  • I played offensive tackle, and defensive end back in the day. I never lettered, but I had lots of fun playing back in those days. Some of my teammates were Robert Simpson (hawk eye), John Edwards, Eligha Ward, Willie Simpson (Boo Boo), Robert Giles (Sweet Cakes), Millard Prince (Meat Head), Billy Hamilton (Hammer Head), and the list goes on.
I practiced to run the mile, but Arnold King was the best miler we had in those days. Artis Barrett was our quarter horse, and the phrase was coined when he got the baton. "The dog's got the bone and gone." I remember when we went to the Nationals and our mile relay team ran a 3:21 mile relay in the State.
The Bulldogs were a formidable force to be reconed with in those days.
